KUALA LUMPUR – Hannah Yeoh has called on the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry to come clean following claims that National Welfare Foundation (YKN) volunteers were appointed mainly from Bersatu’s Srikandi wing.

Referring to an application form that was made available to her, the former ministry No. 2 said each volunteer was paid RM1,000 for the three months from July 15 to October 15, across all parliamentary constituencies.

“Why do we need these volunteers from YKN when there are already Welfare Department officers carrying out similar responsibilities?” she said in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.

Minister Datuk Seri Rina Harun briefly said the application was open to anyone interested in joining as a volunteer.

Pressed on why the vacancies were not advertised, she said it was because spots were limited, at only 30.

Despite further questions raised, the ministry’s budget was approved in a voice vote. – The Vibes, December 10, 2020
